Abstract

Comorbid anorexia nervosa and bipolar disorder present significant clinical challenges due to the contrasting nature of symptoms and treatment requirements. While bipolar disorder often necessitates pharmacological interventions to stabilize mood fluctuations, the introduction of medications in patients with anorexia nervosa must be approached cautiously due to potential complications with metabolism, weight, and adherence. Understanding the psychopharmacological considerations in treating these co-occurring disorders is essential for optimizing patient outcomes. Psychopharmacological treatment of comorbid anorexia nervosa and bipolar disorder is complex, requiring a careful balance between addressing mood stabilization and managing the eating disorder. Clinicians must be aware of the potential for adverse effects, particularly related to weight and metabolism.
