Abstract

One third of food produced for human consumption is disposed as food waste that poses a threat for the global economy and environment. Source reduction and reuse is the preferred option in the food waste management hierarchy. The combined fuel and value products from food waste are considered as raw materials and highly feasible under integrated bio-refinery concepts.
