The mucosal immune system plays a crucial role in protecting the body from pathogens while maintaining tolerance to harmless substances and commensal microorganisms. This article provides an overview of mucosal immunology, exploring its anatomy, components, functions, and significance in health and disease. The abstract emphasizes the importance of understanding mucosal immunity in disease prevention, autoimmune disorders, and potential therapeutic strategies.
