Abstract
Preventive medicine focuses on the health of individuals and societies. It consists of measures taken for disease prevention and health promotion. The objective of preventive medicine is to promote health and well-being and prevent disease, infirmity and death. Health, disease, and infirmity are dynamic processes which begin before symptoms occur and individuals recognize they are affected. Disease prevention relies on anticipatory actions that can be characterized as primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. The knowledge in medicine, social, economic, and behavioural sciences to increase the health and excellence of life of individuals, families, communities and populations through disease prevention and health promotion.
