Abstract

Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) encompasses a broad spectrum of health care practices that are used in conjunction with or as alternatives to conventional medical treatments. This overview explores the various types of CAM, including natural products, mind-body practices, manipulative and body-based therapies, energy therapies, and whole medical systems. It highlights the effectiveness of CAM practices, noting that while some, such as acupuncture and certain herbal remedies, have demonstrated benefits for specific conditions, others lack rigorous scientific validation. The article also addresses the challenges associated with integrating CAM into mainstream healthcare, including issues of regulation, safety, patient education, and financial considerations.
