Abstract

Cardioprotective strategies play a pivotal role in minimizing ischemia-reperfusion injury during cardiac surgery, a concern that equally affects both adult and pediatric populations. This article provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of cardioprotective measures employed in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. The review examines the similarities and distinctions in techniques, challenges, and outcomes between the two groups. While strategies such as cardioplegia and preconditioning are shared, unique considerations arise in pediatric cases due to developmental nuances and heightened susceptibility to ischemic insults.
