Received Date: Sep 01, 2023 / Published Date: Sep 29, 2023
Abstract
Rice is a fundamental staple crop that feeds more than half of the world’s population. As global demographics expand, so does the demand for rice. To meet this escalating need while confronting challenges like climate change and limited arable land, rice breeding has evolved significantly. This article explores the latest breakthroughs in rice breeding, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring global food security. Modern techniques such as genomic selection, marker-assisted selection, and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing have revolutionized the field, enabling the development of high-yielding, climate-resilient, and nutritionally enhanced rice varieties. These advancements promise increased agricultural productivity, climate resilience, and improved nutritional content, thus contributing to a sustainable and nourished world.
