Abstract
The unprecedented global spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has overwhelmed healthcare systems, causing a scarcity of critical resources and necessitating innovative strategies for patient care. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a vital life support system, has faced increased demand amidst the pandemic. This review article explores the transformative measures implemented by a leading pediatric ECMO program located in the epicenter of the crisis. The program adjusted its protocols and guidelines to accommodate both pediatric and adult patients, highlighting the challenges faced, modifications in consultation and cannulation procedures, daily care adaptations, and strategies for safeguarding healthcare personnel.
