Abstract

Brain scanning plays a crucial role in modern neurosurgery, aiding in preoperative planning, intraoperative navigation, and postoperative assessment. This paper provides a concise overview of the various brain scanning techniques commonly utilized in neurosurgical practice, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and functional MRI (fMRI). The utility of each modality in different neurosurgical scenarios is discussed, highlighting their strengths and limitations. Additionally, emerging technologies such as diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) are explored for their potential contributions to enhancing surgical outcomes. Understanding the principles and applications of these brain scanning techniques is essential for neurosurgeons to make informed decisions and optimize patient care.
