Abstract
The expansion of legalized online sports betting in the USA has reduced reliance on offshore sports books in states with regulated markets. However, in states where sport’s betting remains prohibited, offshore sports books continue to operate and attract American bettors. This persistent challenge underscores the need for a comprehensive approach beyond regulation. This paper briefly introduces current efforts to combat the illegal sports betting market and provides suggestions for effectively dismantling offshore operations.
