To provide a sense of scale, each year in the United States, more than 400,000 joint replacement procedures are performed. The top three product segments in China are trauma devices, spinal devices, and artificial joints. Both spinal devices and trauma devices represent a larger market in China than joint replacements do. orthopedics in China are also growing in size and influence, Last year, the Chinese orthopedics firm China Kanghui Holdings was snatched up by Medtronic for $816 million.
