Hemangiosarcoma Cancer in Dogs; Symptoms,Treatment,Causes
Introduction
Cancers are common disease in dogs whereas this cancer is occurred by blood vessels so it is termed as Hemangiosarcoma (a type of cancer that is starting in the blood vessels) most commonly we can see in the breed of German shepherd and golden retrievers sometimes in boxers also. This type can occur inside of the body or it may occur outside also like surface of the skin. If it occurs to the dog we need to take precautions like surgery (surgically removal of that cancer cells). And it has easy recovery after the surgical procedure. This type of cancer is certainly fatal. This can form in every area i.e., liver, spleen, heart etc. we cannot detect immediately until it become large and bulge and it will show symptoms when it became large. Hemangiosarcoma can be spread throughout the body, and it will form large tumors that is filled with blood it will grow anywhere. If one of the tumor will burst then that blood will spread to all parts of the body in medical terms it is called internal bleeding it is signified by sudden whitening of gums and weakness, collapse. After noticing this type of cancer in pet immediately needs to consult veterinarian or need to take to hospital.
This cancer will affect the cells that can make up the blood vessels and often it will spread to the spleen, heart. These tissues are not as strong as normal one’s and these may get rupture when that tissue is filled with blood. Sometimes it may cause internal bleeding and may occur sudden death this happened only in emergency cases.
Symptoms
Some common symptoms are
1. Weight Loss
2. Partial or Incomplete moment loss
3. Heart Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat)
4. Red or Black Lessions or Tumors on the skin
5. Seizures / Sudden collapsing
6. Lack of energy, lameness (pain in the limb)
In this there are 2 types ; Internal and Surface of the skin.
Diagnosis
For Dermal type there is an examination of skin where it turns into red or black lumps, in this condition where skin may expose to sun and occurs hair growth on that particular area. Where dogs with short, white hair are having the great risk for this type of cancer.
Visceral (Internal) this type can be diagnosed due to th symptoms that occurred on the skin. It may rupture on onset we can detect it immediately when it occurred, there are number of ways to detect this type of cancer cells in the body. By causing the swelling in the abdomen or lumps on the skin. A biopsy can done with care and to avoid the internal bleeding.
Treatment
This may depends on how the Hemangiosarcoma is and their size, two methods are there 1, Surgery method 2, Chemotherapy method
Surgery method, after finding out the tumor the most preferred method is surgery without it getting ruptured we need to take this tumor in the spleen, for better diagnosis and for better understanding need to test the spleen after removing it from the body. It is very important to test the spleen by sending into the laboratory because not all the tumors are cancer affecting cells and cancerous one/s
Chemotherapy, when the surgery is not an option to do we can treat with chemotherapy, dogs with severe anemia will need to take blood transfusions and this Hemangiosarcoma patients need to avoid the blood thinning (this is medication which blood will flow smoothly in the body)
This cancerous may cause by the genetic predisposition or it may be by more exposure to carcinogens.in the whole life time.
