Abstract

The process of idea generation in skilled product design engineers is a complex cognitive endeavor shaped by a myriad of neurocognitive mechanisms. This article explores the intricate interplay between cognitive processes and neural networks underlying creative cognition in the realm of product design engineering. Drawing upon neuroscientific research and cognitive psychology, we delve into the neural substrates of divergent thinking, pattern recognition, working memory, emotional regulation, and environmental influences implicated in idea generation. Specifically, regions such as the prefrontal cortex, posterior cingulate cortex, and amygdala emerge as key players in facilitating creative cognition. Behind every revolutionary product lies a complex cognitive journey, navigated by skilled engineers who possess the unique ability to translate abstract concepts into tangible solutions [5]. In this article, we embark on a journey to unravel the enigmatic neurocognitive mechanisms that underpin idea generation in skilled product design engineers. Idea generation is not merely a random occurrence or a stroke of luck; rather, it is a systematic process deeply rooted in the intricate workings of the human mind [6].
