After four decades in 1991, neurologists fanned out to build up a different association called the Indian Academy of Neurology (IAN). Professor Baldev Singh, Dr. Vimla Virmani, Dr. M. C. Maheshwari and Dr. Gulshan K. Ahuja are names who played major role in the growth of neurology. The formation of the Neurological Society of India (NSI) in 1951 was a major initiative of the four stalwarts, Dr. Jacob Chandy, Dr. Baldev Singh, Dr. B. Ramamurthy and Dr. S. T. Narasimhan with all specialties of neurosciences involved in the activities and growth of the society. The different Neurology Journals are also beneficial in promiting the research work. NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences), SCTIMST (Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology) Kerala, AIIMS, Delhi, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research- Chandigarh, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences- Lucknow and Christian Medical College-Vellore are few prestigious institutes of neurology in India.
