Since the establishment in 1959, The Japanese Society of Nephrology (JSN) has been making continuous efforts to be an academic society devoted to social health by cooperation among pioneers, seniors and members of the society. In Japan, more than 300,000 patients are treated with maintenance dialysis, and the number is still increasing as per list of nephrology journals. CKD has been recently recognized as a nation-wide disorder, affecting as many as one-eighth of the adult population. Among these CKD patients, 5,800,000 subjects (one-twentieth of adults), are at a risk to develop end-stage renal disease. Japan is now rushing into a super-aged society.
