Neonatology is a branch of pediatrics which majorly deals with the medical conditions of the newborn. The branch is mostly a hospital based study and is practiced in the neonatal intensive care units. The study mostly involves the preterm and the ill born.The physicians involved in this type of study are known as neonatologists and the patients are refereed as neonates. The different conditions studied under this section involve preterm birth, congenital anomalies, intrauterine infections etc. Peer review refers to the work done during the screening of submitted manuscripts and funding applications. This process encourages authors to meet the accepted standards of their discipline and reduces the dissemination of irrelevant findings, unwarranted claims, unacceptable interpretations, and personal views. Publications that have not undergone peer review are likely to be regarded with suspicion by academic scholars and professionals.
