Nutrients

A substance that provides nourishment essential for the maintenance of life and for growth. Your nutrient requirements are influenced by factors including your age, growth stage and activity. Nutrients are so small that they can’t be seen by the naked eye. Nutrients can generally be broken onto two categories: Macronutrients where carbohydrates, protein and fats are the category and the second one is Micronutrients where vitamins and minerals are the category and calcium, iron, vitamin C are the example.

Nutritional Immunology

Nutritional Immunology It aimed is to understand how diet and nutritional factors influence our immune responses by regulating health and disease outcomes. Beyond providing essential nutrients diet can actively influence the immune system. Naturally occurring compounds like linoleic acid, abscisic acid, polyunsaturated fatty acids, resveratrol, curcumin, limonin, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and Vitamin D modulate immune responses. Nutrition plays a fundamental role in maintaining the health and in the treatment of disease. The emerging of nutritional immunology is because of the detrimental effect of malnutrition on the immune system. Nutritional deficiency compromises the immune response which led to increased susceptibility to infectious diseases, cancer, suboptimal response to vaccinations and other immunological disorders. Protein is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality due to infectious diseases particularly in the developing world.

Community Health Nutrition

Community health and nutrition are the crucial important components for improving health and nutrition. The interventions supported are complementary and viewed from both a public health and nutrition angle. Population health is a term that is becoming more common with a focus on people with shared characteristics such as race or ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geography and gender.

Cancer Diet

The cancer diet is very important as the cancer treatment. Obesity increases the risk for cancers of the oesophagus, breast, endometrium and kidney. The body weight must be maintained in the body mass index range of 18.5-25 kg/m2. Hot drinks and foods may probably increase the risk for cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx and oesophagus. Oxalic acid is deadly for the cancerous cells. Chlorine destroys many phytonutrients and other nutrients. Salt preserved foods and high salt intake probably increases the risk for stomach cancer.

Dietary Bioactive Components

There are many evidence suggest that the regular consumption of fruits and vegetables is negatively associated with risk of developing chronic diseases. A wide variety of fruits and vegetables provide a range of nutrients and different bioactive compounds including phytochemicals (phenolics, flavonoids, and carotenoids), vitamins (vitamin C, folate, and provitamin A), minerals (potassium, calcium, and magnesium), and fibers. People can obtain nutrients and bioactive compounds from a variety of foods for optimal nutrition and for good health. It interacts with the immune response which has considerable potential to reduce the cancer risk. Some Amino acids like glutamine or arginine, lipids such as the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, DHA or EPA, or novel carbohydrates such as various sources of beta-glucans are the various types of macronutrients. Vitamins such as C and E are commonly used as antioxidants, minerals like zinc and selenium has a wide spectrum of impacts on the immune system.

Experimental Animal Nutrition

Animal nutrition focuses entirely on the dietary needs of domesticated animals, primarily those in agriculture and food production. Meeting livestock nutritional requirements is extremely important for maintaining acceptable performance of neonatal, growing, finishing and breeding animals. It mainly focused on livestock, health responses, and environmental impacts to receive maximum nutritional benefits in animal production. It involves research on animal care, animal feed science and technology, nutrition and other speculations. Animal Nutrients are provided by food. Nutrients are essential for growth and maintenance of the body even some nutrients provide energy. Macro nutrients and micro nutrients both are essential for health.

Nutrition Translation

In most of the developing countries, Health research is rarely translated into practical public health actions. Applied scientific health research contributes to improved knowledge and better understanding of the strategies and solutions required to improve the needs of the public health sector. Scientific research in limited resources in a country is an obstacle to its development and the generation of alternative solutions to dynamic and changing public health priorities. Strengthening applied research in middle income countries will lead to numerous benefits at different levels from cultivating academic training, stimulating critical thinking and increasing self-satisfaction and motivation of health practitioners to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of health systems.

Environmental Nutrition

It emerged from a recognition that the complex interactions within the food system related with health and environment need to be considered at the same time. The conventional food system threatens our health and overall well-being with increased air and water pollution, toxic chemical exposure, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, soil erosion, climate change inducing greenhouse gas emissions and loss of biodiversity. It is a useful tool for critically analysing the wide-reaching environmental, social and health impacts of industrial agriculture.

Nutrition Therapy

It is an application of nutrition science which helps in promotion of health and individual care. Nutritional Therapists used a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. It acts like a complementary medicine and it is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions .It treats our body as a whole while seeking the root source of health concerns rather than simply treating the symptoms.

Nutritional Interventions

Nutritional Interventions are categorized as situational health actions. The purpose of this Intervention is to resolve and to improve the nutrition diagnosis by provision of advice, education and delivery of the food component of a specific diet. There strategies are selected to change nutritional intake, nutrition related knowledge, environmental conditions or access to supportive care and services. It provides the basis for monitoring progress and measuring outcomes. Nutrition intervention is accomplished by two distinct and interrelated steps. These two steps are planning and implementing.

Nutritional Policies

The need for a National Nutrition Policy is implicit in both the paramountcy of nutrition in development as well as in the complexity of the problem. Under nutrition is a condition resulting from inadequate intake of food or more essential nutrients resulting in deterioration of physical and health. This condition of under-nutrition reduces the work capacity and productivity amongst adults and it enhances mortality and morbidity amongst children. Such reduced productivity translates it into reduced earning capacity, leading to poverty and the vicious cycle goes on. This policy is viewed as a specific set of decisions with related actions established by a government and supported by special legislation.

Dietary Supplement

Dietary supplements are vitamins, minerals, herbs etc. They can come in the form of pills, capsules, powders, drinks, and energy bars. Supplements do not have to go through the testing that drugs do. A dietary supplement provide nutrients that may otherwise not be consumed in sufficient quantities.
Some supplements can play an important role in health. For example, calcium and vitamin D are important for keeping bones strong. Pregnant women can take the vitamin folic acid to prevent certain birth defects in their babies.
