Biography

Dr. Konstantinos Filis received the M.D. and the Ph.D. degrees from the University of Athens Medical School, Greece, in 1990 and 1999, respectively. He was a resident in general surgery from 1993 to 1997 and in vascular surgery from 1997 to 2001 in Laikon Hospital, University of Athens Medical School. From 1998 to 1999, he served as a Visiting Fellow in vascular and endovascular surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Vascular Surgery Department, Montefiore Hospital, NY, USA. From 2001 to 2002, he became a Postdoctoral Fellow in endovascular surgery at Stanford University, Vascular Surgery Department, Calif, USA. Presently, he serves as an Assistant Professor of vascular surgery, University of Athens Medical School, Ippokrateio Hospital, Athens, Greece. He has 55 presentations in international congresses and 72 in Greek congresses, as well as 50 publications in Greek vascular journals and book chapters. He has also been an Invited Speaker/Chairman in 10 international and in 43 Greek congresses. He has published 67 peer reviewed articles (pub med) and he has been awarded in five congresses for his scientific work (second prize in World Congress of IUA, 2002, NY, USA).

Dr. Konstantinos Filis research interests include Carotid artery atherosclerosis, Limb ischemia, Diabetic foot morbidity, Rehabilitation after amputation, Foot ulcers.

1. How many years have you been practicing and/or performing research?
20 years

2. What is the research topic you are working on now?
Chronic limb ischemia, diabetic foot.

3. What makes an article top quality?
Several factors: originality, protocol, scientific definitions of aim and methods used, scientific writing, bibliography used.

4. What are the qualities you look for in an article?
What is the new that adds in literature

5. Do you have any research funding (NIH or other national funding) now?
Yes

6. When did you become an editor of OMICS Journal?
In 2011

7. What is your greatest career accomplishment?
Second prize in the World Congress of the International Union of Angiology (2002, NY) after a competition among more than 400 papers.

8. How does the research published percolate through to practitioners?
It depends on the practitioners themselves.

9. What is the purpose of serving as an editor?
Review papers, present editorials, suggest topics.
