Biography

Kaan Orhan, DDS MSc PhD is an Associate Professor of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology at the Near East and Ankara University, Faculty of Dentistry, where he serves as the chairman of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department, Near East University, Nicosia, Cyprus. Dr. Orhan was born in Çaycuma, 1976. He received his dental degree in 1998 from Ankara University, Turkey and completed his Maxillofacial Radiology residency studies in 2002 at the Osaka University Faculty of Dentistry in Osaka, Japan. In 2004, he started his academic career in Ankara University as a consultant at the Faculty of Dentistry. Between 2004-2006, he worked as Maxillofacial consultant and lecturer in the same University. He became an associate professor in 2006. In 2007, he started as the chairman of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology Department, Near East University, Nicosia, Cyprus. He has over 50 SCI international publications on peer-reviewed journals, and received over 175 citations from his studies. He particularly made significant contributions in the Maxillofacial Radiology. He has been invited to give many lectures in national and international scientific meetings. He is also serving as the chairman of Research and Scientific Committee, European Academy of DentoMaxillofacial Radiology. He has been a reviewer for the Clinical Anatomy, Oral Surgery Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiol and Endod, Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, World Journal Surgical Oncology.

1. How many years have you been practicing and/or performing research?
I am performing research and practicing in my field for over 15 years.

2. What is the research topic you are working on now?
I am working on Head and Neck Radiology, DentoMaxillofacial Radiology.

3. What makes an article top quality?
Readers seek out articles that are clearly written, informative. Yet moderate information-access in the manuscript lack capabilities for predicting article quality at high level. For a lay audience, a science writer should presents only the most relevant findings and methods from a research study and interleaves research information with details about the relevance of the finding.

4. What are the qualities you look for in an article?
In my opinion, the study which indicates that great articles are also associated with a great amount of direct research content and explanations.

5. Do you have any research funding (NIH or other national funding) now?
I have and had couple of National funding from my studies in my country.

6. When did you become an editor of OMICS Journal?
I have and had couple of National funding from my studies in my country.

7. What is your greatest career accomplishment?
Becoming the president of European Academy of DentoMaxillofacial Radiology.

8. How does the research published percolate through to practitioners?
New information and knowledge do percolate through the policy environment and become part of policy makers' thinking, not in a clear linear fashion, but in a much more diffuse way. As stated bythe others, "The pattern of influence can be likened to water falling on limestone: the water is absorbed, but there is no knowing what route it will take through the different strata of stone or where it will come out."

9. What is the purpose of serving as an editor?
To add quality and good information, study and knowledge to the scientific com and to make the researchers aware the quality studies.
