Floriculture

Floriculture is a subject which deals with cultivation of flowers. It is a branch of Horticulture which shares out the studies of ornamental plants, cut flowers, bedding plants.

As per available reports about 100 journals, 162 Conferences, 30 workshops are presently dedicated exclusively to floriculture and about 366282 articles are being published on the current trends in floriculture. In terms of research annually, USA, India, Japan, Brazil and Canada are some of the leading countries where maximum studies related to floriculture are being carried out. Harvesting of carnation flower stalk at 10 cm height from the ground level recorded minimum number of days to sprouting of buds than other harvesting heights i.e., 5, 15 and 20 cm height. Days to first flower bud appearance, color break stage and days to harvest was also minimum with harvesting at 10 cm height in cultivars Domingo, Dover and Keiro.
