Turkey is situated at where Europe meets Asia, creating a link between these two continents. Thrace refers to the European part of the country, while the Asian part is known as Anatolia (or Asia Minor).

Geographically, it is bordered by eight countries. This country is bordered to northwest by Greece and Bulgaria, to the east by the former USSR, Iran, and to the south by Iraq and Syria.

Turkey's dynamic economy is due to both of its modern industry and traditional agriculture sector. The country is pioneer in advanced research in textiles, food processing, autos, electronics, mining, steel, petroleum, construction, lumber and paper. The main agricultural products from Turkey are tobacco, cotton, grain, olives, sugar beets, etc. Mining also contributes its part to economy of country through coal, chromate, copper and boron.

So far only two persons have been awarded as Nobel laureates in Turkey. Currently most of the research is going on Digital Systems, Electronics and Circuits and many more. Turkish Science and Technology Research Institute of Turkey monitor the funding and for the R & D related to engineering in the country. Sabanci University is the leading Institution in engineering research in Turkey. Numerous engineering journals were serving to develop the scientific community from Turkey with good reputation. Several leading Journals in the country like Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Turkish Journal of Engineering and Environmental Sciences provides knowledge base over the current researches in engineering.
