Bimal Krishna Banik was awarded Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Chemistry from Itachuna Bejoy Narayan College and Master of Science Degree in Chemistry from Burdwan University, West Bengal, India. He was awarded Ph. D. degree by Jadavpur University based upon his thesis work performed at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) and Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, New Jersey). He is a Fellow (FRSC) and Chartered Chemist (CChem) of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Cambridge, England. Professor Banik has served as a Tenured Full Professor in Chemistry and First President’s Endowed Professor in Science & Engineering at the University of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg; an Assistant Professor in Molecular Pathology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston; and a Research Assistant Professor in Chemistry & Chemical Biology at Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey since 1994. At present, he is the Vice President of Research & Education Development of Community Health Systems of South Texas, USA. Dr. Banik is deeply engaged in multiple areas of higher education. His numerous contributions in research, teaching, mentoring, advising and social activities are recognized by students, scientists and professionals globally. He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate students in USA universities for the past many years. His teaching skills are exceptionally strong and these are proved by students’ confidential evaluations and thousands of comments. He has mentored approximately 453 students, 20 postdoctoral fellows, and 7 Ph. D. level research scientists. Dr. Banik has acted as the advisor of two major scientific societies that have 1400 diverse students belong to Arts, Science, Engineering, Business, Pharmacy, Clinical Science and Education. Most importantly, his exceptional mentorship, advising and teaching abilities are reflected in many of his students who have gone on to pursue education at Harvard University, Stanford University, MIT, Baylor College of Medicine, Yale University, Texas A & M University, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, University of Texas at Galveston, State University of New York, University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, University of Texas-Pan American, Rice University, Northeastern University, Vanderbilt University, University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, and several International Universities. Many of his students are working in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries in the USA and other nations.
