Biography

Ramesh Batra, is an adult and pediatric multi-organ abdominal transplant surgeon. He underwent the British system of surgical training in NHS based hospitals in United Kingdom, and was admitted to the Membership and Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and also Glasgow. He set the foundation and further advanced his transplant training in London at Royal Free hospital and also at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital before moving to the United States. He then completed the ASTS abdominal transplant fellowship at Mayo Clinic Arizona in liver, kidney and pancreas transplants along with pediatric liver transplants at Phoenix Children's hospital and was later recruited as a faculty member and also as and adult/pediactric transplant surgeon At Yale, Dr. Batra is an Assistant Professor in the section of Transplant Surgery, performing adult and pediatric liver, kidney transplants from living and deceased organ donors. Alongside his role as a transplant surgeon he also performs complex hepato-biliary procedures for liver tumors and biliary tract disorders including general surgery procedures on patients with liver cirrhosis and kidney failure. Dr. Batra's expertise is in living organ donation and his interests include, shortening of organ transplant waiting list by selectively utilizing extended spectrum organs. Aside from maximizing utility, he is passionate about tackling the ethical and technical challenges of organ donation and transplantation.
