Biography

Dr. Mostafa I. Waly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, and has been working in the area of Nutritional Biochemistry for the past 14 years. He has received his Ph.D. from Boston, USA (Northeastern University) in Health Sciences and his research interests’ focuses on understanding the metabolic aspects of oxidative stress in relation to human chronic diseases. His laboratory is also interested in identifying the preventive role of B vitamins (folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12) in early pathogenesis of hyperhomocysteinemia, using in vitro and in vivo experimental models. His research work has resulted in numerous publications in international peer-reviewed high ranking journals, and acquiring numerous research grants from various national funding agencies. He is the Editor-in-Chief and founder for the Canadian Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and serving in the editorial boards of 6 international journals in the field of clinical nutrition. On the basis of his ongoing research work, a network of research activities with international collaborators was established and postgraduate students as well as undergraduate students were trained for their graduating research projects. Dr. Waly is currently a co-principal investigator for three national human clinical trials in Oman for the primary prevention of type 2 diabetes, vitamin D deficiency and colorectal cancer among high risk groups of the Omani adults.
