Biography

Dr. Merryn Gott  was appointed as Professor of Health Sciences and Director of Research to the School of Nursing, University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2009. She did her undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford and her PhD (in gerontology) at the University of Sheffield. Merryn leads an international research programme in the field of palliative and end of life care, with a particular focus upon the needs of older people and care delivery outside of specialist palliative care settings. Her latest book (co-edited with Professor Christine Ingleton, University of Sheffield), International Perspectives on End of Life Care for Older People was published by Oxford University Press in 2011. Merryn also serves as an Associate Editor for the new BMJ Journal – BMJ Supportive and Palliative Care.

Research Interest

Dr. Merryn Gott had developed a unique programme of work of international standing exploring palliative and end of life care, with a particular focus upon older people.
