Biography

Dr. Hiroko Shigemi graduated from Kyoto Prefectural Medical College in 1985. After training in University Hospital in Kyoto, she studied in Johns Hospital University in the US from 1990 though 1992. In Dr. Shoukas Lab. she studied baroreceptor reflex. Returned to hometown, she has continued to work as a general doctor.
About 7 years ago, she began to be engaged in Hematology & Oncology Department in University of Fukui and established acute leukemia drug resistant cells (HL/CAFdA20 and HL/CAFdA80) to elucidated resistant mechanism. She has been specialized in oncology research these several years. In clinical therapy of hematological malignancies, it is very important to consider about febrile neutropenia and infectious diseases. Now Dr. Hiroko Shigemi works in Division of Infection Control & Prevention and Department of Respiratory Medicine. She is engaged in Bacterial Infection, Viral infection, Vector Infection, Fungal Infection and Influenza Infection, especially in Respiratory field with Prof. Tamotsu Ishizuka. On the other hand, she always monitors all of infected patients with positive blood culture test in her facility with Prof. Hiromichi Iwasaki and other medical staff. Concerned with experimental field, her lab members are going to elucidate mechanism to regulate cytokine release in various infections.
