Xiaolei Chen
Department of Chemistry,
Dartmouth College,
USA
Dr. Xiaolei Chen received his bachelors degree in Biology from University of Science and Technology of China in 2006. Then he moved to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to do graduate research with Dr. Zhihong Guo in Department of Chemistry. His graduate research focused on understanding the role of type I polyketide synthases play in biosynthesis of enediyne natural products. After obtaining PhD in 2011, he continued to work briefly in Dr. Zhihong Guos lab. In 2012, he joined Department of Chemistry in Dartmouth College to work with Professor Ekaterina Pletneva as postdoctoral scholar.
Current research interest of Dr. Xiaolei Chen includes exploration of protein labeling strategies and application of these strategies to the study of cytochrome c which plays an essential role in apoptosis in many organisms. Equipped with FRET, Dr. Chen is working on probing structural changes of cytochrome c in the process of apoptosis by installing fluorescent reporters onto the protein.
