Biography

Dr. Stephen Wikel received his Ph.D. in veterinary microbiology from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) in 1977. Currently, he is Professor of Pathology and Senior Scientist in the Center for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases and Center for Tropical Diseases, School of Medicine, University of Texas Medical Branch and Galveston National Laboratory. He is a member of the editorial boards of Parasite Immunology, Parasites & Vectors, and specialist editorial board member, International Journal for Parasitology. He authored over 100 peer reviewed research papers, chapters and edited a book on host-ectoparasite immune interactions. He serves on numerous advisory panels to research organizations around the world. He has been an invited speaker for 74 national or international symposia.

Research Interest

Host-arthropod vector-pathogen interactions with emphasis on select agents transmitted by ticks or mosquitoes.
