Biography

Dr Juan L ViveroEscoto is a postdoctoral fellow with the Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity at the Chemistry Department of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill He earned his BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico He obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry at Iowa State University working with Dr Victor SY Lin† on the development of novel drug delivery systems based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles He is currently working with Dr Wenbin Lin on the synthesis and applications of hybrid nanoparticles as therapeutic and contrast agents Dr ViveroEscoto has published a number of papers reviews and book chapters regarding to the development synthesis and applications of silicabased hybrid nanomaterials for drug delivery and imaging He has also been a reviewer of peerreviewed journals in the area of nanotechnology for biomedical and biotechnological applications He is a current member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society

Research Interest

Dr. Vivero-Escoto’s broad research interest involves the development of novel multifunctional organic-inorganic hybrid platforms for renewable energy production, catalysis, biomedicine and biotechnology. In particular, he is currently focused on the synthesis of silica-based materials such as polysilsesquioxane and mesoporous silica nanoparticles, and metal-organic frameworks. These types of materials promise to have a high impact in applications such as drug delivery and multimodal imaging (MRI, optical and CT).
