Biography

Dr. Ruifu Yang is a professor of microbial genomics at the Beijing Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology, focusing on structural, comparative and functional genomic research on Y. pestis. In 1996, Yang was also a visiting professor at Gifu University in Japan. He has authored more than 100 research articles in scientific journals including Nature Genetics, PLOS ONE, PLOS NTD, Journal of Bacteriology, Infect and Immunity, BMC Genomics, BMC Microbiology, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Proteomics, Applied Environmental Microbiology, Microbe and Infection and FEMS Microbiological Letter etc. He was also awarded the National Science Foundation of China for Distinguished Young Scholars.

 

Research Interest

Focusing on structural, comparative and functional genomic research on Y. pestis. He is also interested in microbial forensics, particularly the analysis of different pathogens using whole genome sequencing, and microbial diagnostics, where his work centers on the rapid detection and identification of medically important microorganisms using different techniquesincluding DNA probe hybridization, PCR, biochips, and biosensors.
