Biography

Nikolai M. Sergienko is the Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology in National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. He worked as head of the Department of Ophthalmology in Dagestan Medical Institute (1972-1977) and Department of Ophthalmology in National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (1978-2008). The first aberrometer Tracey was created on theoretical basis of his doctor thesis “Investigation to the theory of clinical refraction of the human eye “. He served as Chief Ophthalmologist of Ministry of Health of Ukraine from 1978-2006.

Research Interest

1) Developing of accommodating intra-ocular lens models. 2) Application of aberrometry in optometry practice: evaluation of structure of astigmatism and selecting an optimal toric element. 3) Measurement of pseudoaccommodation in relation with different levels of visual acuity and pupil size. 3) Application of method for direct evaluation of cornea biomechanical property for early diagnosis of keratokonus and selection of patients for refractive surgery.
