Biography

Dr. Muditha Vidanapathirana studied at Ananda College, Colombo, Sri Lanka and then entered to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo Sri Lanka in 1986. Dr. M Vidanapathirana (MBBS Colombo 1994) obtained the Diploma in Legal Medicine (DLM) in 1988 and Doctor of Medicine in Forensic Medicine (MD) in 2001. Attended foreign training at the University of Glasgow under the supervision of Prof. Peter Vanezis in 2002-2003. Board certified as a specialist in Forensic Medicine, in 2002 and Joined as Lecturer in Forensic Medicine at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna in 2002. Appointed as a Grade II Senior Lecturer in 2002 and a Grade I Senior Lecturer in 2007. Held the post of Head of the Department Forensic medicine for 6 years (2004- 2010). MA in Criminology was obtained in 2008 from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. A transfer to University of Sri Jayewardenepura was obtained in 2010. The Diploma membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (MFFLM) was obtained from the Royal College of Physicians UK in 2011.  He a certificate holder in basics of medical education, Forensic human identification, Disaster victim identification (DVI), Managing Disasters, Recording of video evidence, Documentation and management of psychological aspects of torture. Two books have been published. He have organized several international and local workshops, been a resource person in many international and local workshops and participated in many international and local workshops.

He have published more than 150 publications including international and local publications. Won several awards for research and publications including presidential awards in 2014.
