Biography

Doctor Mark Agius qualified at the University of Malta in 1976. After House Jobs, he went to England where he was the first Maltese doctor to do Vocational Training in General Practice. He practiced in Luton, and subsequently moved to psychiatry in 1996. He has been instrumental in starting the first Early Intervention in Psychosis team in Bedfordshire, and became very interested in developing mental health services in Primary care. He also developed an interest in Bipolar Disorder, Post-traumatic stress disorder, and the development of mental health services. He has published extensively on all these subjects and is an Associate Specialist at the South Essex Partnership University Mental Health Trust and a Visiting Research Associate at the Department of Psychiatry University of Cambridge.

Research Interest

Mental Health, including working with patients with first psychotic episodes,Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Post-traumatic stress disorder and Obsessive compulsive disorder. Psychoeducation and involving and empowerintg patients to manage there own conditions.Epidemiology of mentalhealth issues and developing services
