Maria Teresa Mascellino has completed her MD at the age of 25 years in Rome during the period of 1980 and specialization studies in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). She works as aggregate professor in the Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases at Policlinico Umberto I° of Rome. She is responsible for the Simple Operative Unit "Microbiological Analyses in the immunocompromised hosts". She has published about 100 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of repute (i.e. Jacobs Journal of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine ISSN 2381-487X). She is Editor of the book “Bacterial and Mycotic Infection in immuno- compromised hosts: microbiological and clinical aspects” Omics Group Incorporation, 2014, ISBN: 978-1-63278-005-8. She is referee for many important International Journals (i.e. JAM etc. ) and for the Research Projects of the Ministry of University and Scientific Research (MIUR) of Rome other than referee at Fund for the control of Infectious Diseases (RFCD) of Hong Kong for the revisions of Research Projects. She is member of many scientific societies (ESCMID, ASM, New York Academy of Science) and has participated in rilevant International Research Projects. She teaches Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to Medicine students in the University of Rome. Moreover she has been charged of the teaching to foreign students at Trinity College of Dublin (Ireland) in the context of Erasmus Project for the teaching staff mobility by Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). Her biography is included in Who’s who in Science and Engineering IV e V Edition (1998-1999 e 2000-2001) , in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare new millenium edition (III Edition) 2000, in Who’s who in the World XXVII Edition 2010 (The Marquis Who’s Who Publication Board) and in The Barons 500 Edition 2000.
Her Research interests include, Bacterial antibiotic resistance and multidrug resistant microorganisms, Tuberculosis, Chlamydia infections, MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus ), Rapid laboratory methods (PCR), Helicobacter pylori: virulence determinants and pathology, Candidemiae: incidence and drugs susceptibility, Intracardiac devices infections, Sonication technique for bacterial biofilm, Klebsiella pneumoniae MDR in nosocomial infections and synergistic activity of double carbapenem in clinical practice, Acinetobacter baumanii in nosocomial infections.
