Dr Leon L Shaw is a full professor in the Department of Chemical Materials and Biomolecular Engineering University of Connecticut USA He earned his PhD at the University of Florida in 1992 Dr Shaw has published extensively in the area of biomaterials and has authored or coauthored over 220 archival technical publications including 3 editorial volumes 7 book chapters and 144 refereed journal articles He is the Chairman of ASM Materials Synthesis and Processing Committee and a guest editor for several leading journals including Journal of Materials Science Metallurgical and Materials Transactions Materials Science and Engineering and Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance His research is newsworthy and has been featured by many magazines such as Chemical Engineering High Tech Ceramics News and Small Times Magazine including a recent article titled “Functionally Graded Implants: Fuse Strength with a Bioactive Surface featured in Medical Product Manufacturing News March 2010 Dr Shaw has received numerous awards and distinctions including being elected as a Fellow of ASM International a Fellow of the World Academy of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering Poland and a Member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering
