Dr Josephine Etowa is an Associate Professor and Loyer-DaSilva Research Chair in Public Health Nursing at the University of Ottawa. As a nurse, a midwife, a lactation consultant, a researcher and an educator, Dr Etowa has worked in various capacities within the Canadian health care systems and abroad. Her program of research has been in the area of reducing inequities in health and health care with a particular focus on community, HIV/AIDS care, maternal-child and women’s health using community based participatory research (CBPR) approach. A co-founder and past president of the Health Association of African Canadians, Dr Etowa has and continues to be instrumental in bringing issues of marginalized populations and health inequities within the Canadian contexts to the forefront in local, national and international arenas.
