Biography
Graduate at Biological Sciences from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1986) and PhD at Biochemistry from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1996). Has experience in toxicology, neurotoxicology, pharmacology and biochemistry. The main research interest is now related to the development of simple invertebrate models to study the neurotoxicity of mercury and the interaction of mercury with organic compounds containing selenium. The interaction of electrophiles with nucleophiles centers of biological interest (thiol and selenol group) in silico and in vitro is also part of the research interest of our group. The use of toxicology to teach biology and chemistry in elementary school as way of improve science education is also under study in our laboratory.
