Biography

Dr. Hawthorne-Burdine began practicing as a nurse in 1974 and has clinical experience in the areas of neonatal intensive care, coronary intensive care, open heart recovery, pre-post operative care, emergency room nursing, and general pediatrics. Since 1977, she has taught in the traditional in-class setting, televised courses, online courses, and subjects outside of nursing that include sociology and psychology. Dr. Hawthorne-Burdine uses a cross-sectional approach with the comparative-correlational design to investigate the relationship of sexual-reproductive hormones and variant alleles within the CYP3A4 family of genes in females, ages 14 to 21 years, with sickle cell disease. She is the president of Sigma Theta Tau Lambda Chapter at Wayne State University College of Nursing in Detroit, Michigan. Also, she is an active member in several nursing organizations where she serves as grant and abstract reviewer. Dr. Hawthorne-Burdine frequently presents at professional meetings and conferences.
