Biography

Denise Stahl is an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist with more than 20 years of experience working in palliative care, Denise is the Executive Director for the UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute. She is responsible for growth and development of palliative care services across the UPMC continuum of care, including acute, post-acute and outpatient services. Denise has taught in the Schools of Nursing and Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, Community College of Allegheny County, and is a faculty member of the University of Pittsburgh Consortium Ethics Program. Denise is a board certified advanced practice palliative care nurse and is President of the National Board of Certification for Hospice and Palliative Nurses. Denise is also certified as an EPEC and ELNEC trainer for nurses and physicians working in end of life care. Denise serves on the steering committee for the Coalition for Quality at End of Life for Western PA and is actively involved, locally, regionally and nationally as an advocate for all issues related to improving care for persons with serious illness.
