Dr. Chan is Professor of Architecture and the Chair of the Digital Media Minor Program at the College of Design at Iowa State University (ISU), and Professor of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Graduate Program at the Virtual Reality Applications Center. Dr. Chan has a PhD in Architecture from Carnegie-Mellon University. His areas of interest include virtual reality in architectural design, human cognition in design thinking on phenomenology, style, and creativity. During his years of research and teaching at ISU, he has developed comprehensive cognitive theories of style and creativity, and applied virtual reality models in the six-sided immersive CAVE facilities to study building performance. These works were results of a number of funded research projects where he served as principal investigator, resulting in a number of journal and three book publications.
