Biography

Dr. Birgitt van Oorschot is the head of the Interdisciplinary Center of Palliative Medicine of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Mainfranken, Würzburg, Germany. She is radiation oncologist and speaker of the working group „Palliative Radiotherapy and Palliative Medicine“ of the German Association of Radiooncology (DEGRO). From (2001 – 2004) she was responsible for the project, "Patients as partners – medical decision making at the end of life“ at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, funded by the German Federal Health Ministry to improve shared decision making in patient-physician interaction in Germany.

Research Interest

Dr. Birgitt van Oorschot research interests includes: Palliative radiotherapy and radiotherapy in palliative medicine, shared decision making, medical decision making at the end of life, advanced directives, spiritual care.
