Barbara Anne Jack

Edge Hill University

Biography

Barbara Jack completed her nurse training and held various clinical posts in the NHS until she moved into nurse education joining Edge Hill University in 1992. Barbara undertook a part time PhD at the University of Manchester followed by a secondment to the Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute Liverpool, to undertake research in palliative care. This included evaluating the impact of the national End of Life initiative surrounding the Liverpool Care of the Dying Pathway. Barbara was awarded a Readership in 2003 and Professorial chair in 2006 and is currently the Faculty of Health & Social Care, Head of Research and Scholarship as well as Director of the Evidence Based Research Centre. In 2006 Barbara established links with Hospice Africa Uganda and in 2010 was made a Visiting Professor. Recently she has been appointed to a THET funded project to be part of a UK Hospice Africa Faculty, to a palliative care degree.

Barbara is editorial board member of Nurse Researcher and a Royal College of Nursing Research Academy mentor. Barbara has extensive research project experience including PhD and MD supervision and has a particular interest in research mentoring.
