Biography

Dr. Aaron W. James is a Bone and Soft Tissue Pathologist with research interests in osteosarcoma, mesenchymal stem cells, and bone tissue engineering. He received his Bachelor degree from University of California, Berkeley and MD degree from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). His residency in Anatomic Pathology and fellowship training in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology were completed at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He first performed research in bone biology at Stanford University, and subsequently at UCLA. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including highly cited articles in Nature Communications, Stem Cells, Tissue Engineering Part A, and Stem Cells Translational Medicine.

Research Interest

Dr. Aaron W. James’ primary research interests in neoplasia include sarcoma biology, specifically novel signaling pathways in osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma, and the role of pericytes and other mesenchymal stem cells in sarcomagenesis. His research in non-neoplastic tissue includes bone regeneration and bone tissue engineering.
