Biography

Amit K. Chhabra is the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations for the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation, where he serves as Vice Chair for Legal Affairs and Public Relations. He has also served as a visiting law professor at St. George’s University and New York Law School. His research has focused on superpower duties to engage breakaway states and the responsibility to protect people beleaguered by gross human rights violations. His current book, The Dust Never Settles centers on the failures of post-war reconciliation where land has changed hands. Professor Chhabra obtained his law degree from the University of Notre Dame and his bachelor’s degree in History from Cornell University. He lives in New York City where he has served as counsel and subject expert to multinational banks and brokerage houses. Ambassador Chhabra is a member of the American Society of International Law, on behalf of which he serves as an Observer to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
