Cytology can be defined as a branch of science that deals with the study of cells structure and function at microscopic level. It basically deals with diagnoses of diseases and the examination of tissue samples from the body. The cytological specimens are usually scraped out from the tissue or specific body parts such as Pap smear. Then these prepared specimens is spread over glass slides and stained followed by visualization under the microscope for viewing the individual cells, to analyse their shape, structure, formation and the function. These tests are basically done for the cancerous cells and to identify any viral infections.
