Antimicrobial agents are the substances or the chemicals that are used to either inhibit or slow down the microbial growth. Based on the pathogenic infections, the patients are suggested to take antiviral agents, antibacterial drugs, antifungal chemicals, etc. Antimicrobial chemotherapy is the study that helps to understand the mechanisms that undergo within the body to cure a disease by using antimicrobial agents. Hence the antimicrobial agents that are used in treatment of infections and diseases are called as antibiotics.
