Biography

Prof Nicholas Tonti-Filippini BA (Hons) MA (Monash) PhD (Melb) FHERDSA KCSG is Associate Dean and Head of Bioethics at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Melbourne, Australia, which is associated with the Lateran University in Rome and accredited in Australia as a higher education provider offering graduate courses. He was a member (2004-6) and deputy chair of the Australian Health Ethics Committee a principal committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council (2006-9), chaired public enquiries on the Unresponsive and Minimally Responsive State (2008) and on Commercialization of Human Tissue (2009) and was a member of NHMRC Working Parties on Organ and Tissue Transplantation, the National Statement on the Ethical Conduct of Human Research, and Assisted Reproductive Technology. He is currently a member of an expert panel advising the Victorian Artificial Reproductive Technology Authority. He has published extensively in Bioethics including most recently four volumes of About Bioethics: Vol 1, Philosophical and Theological Approaches (2011); Vol 2, Care of People who are Sick or Dying (2012); Vol 3, Transplantation, Biobanks and the Human Body (2012), and Vol 4, Motherhood, Embodied Love and Culture (2013). Volume 5, Faith, Science and Creation is due to be published later this year.
