The Society established for blind community, to support the blind withwelfare, education, training and employment programmes is the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB). It was started in the year 1956 with a parliament intending to help blind community by then existing Kenyan government. In this concern, this society supports any organization, institution or any other society or a person, working for blindness.
The Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB) in partnership with department of education, Kenya, working in nearly 20 counties and almost supporting for more than 2500 students, who are suffering with visual impairment. Simultaneously, it works with Kenya Ophthalmic Programme (KOP), under ministry of healthby arranging programmes to prevent and cure, eye related deficiencies leading to blindness through the integration of Primary Eye Care into the existing Primary Health Care system in Kenya. It also working on increasing experts in ophthalmology and supplying of drugs for the diseases, such as Trachoma is a regular practice.Establishment of eye care centres for proper eye testing is its major priority.
