    Biography :
    Min Li got his PhD from Emory University at Atlanta, Georgia in 2002. Under the supervision of Dr. Richard W. Compans, a world renowned virologist and immunologist, he studied the regulation of a retrovirus envelope protein induced membrane fusion and the association with lipid rafts. He then moved on to Baylor College of Medicine at Houston, Texas, and started his career in cancer research as an Assistant Professor in 2004. He joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Medical School in 2010 as the Director of Cancer Research Program. His research interests include pancreatic cancer and brain tumor pathogenesis, translational research, new therapies and tumor vaccine development. His group is the first one to identify a zinc transporter (ZIP4) as a new molecular target in pancreatic cancer, and has developed a novel therapy to treat this malignancy.    BIOGRAPHY
    Research Interest :
    My current research projects focus on pancreatic cancer and brain tumor pathogenesis, translational research, new therapies (shRNA therapy, small molecule therapy, and nutrition/diet therapy), and tumor vaccine development. Due to the difficulty in diagnosing pancreatic adenocarcinoma and glioma, and its high resistance to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy, new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies are urgently needed for these malignant disease.     Biography :
    Narasaiah Kolliputi is an Assistant Professor in the Nanomedicine Research Center and Divisions of Allergy and Immunology and Translational Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of South Florida, Tampa. He is working on translational strategies to attenuate acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). He received his postdoctoral training in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He has published his research in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Immunology and Circulation research. He is a reviewer for top journals including Journal of Experimental Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine and Journal of Immunology. He is a reviewer for the Department of Defense Research Grants and American Heart Association Scientist Development Grants. He is an Editorial Board Member for Virology and Mycology. His research is funded by NIH RO1 and AHA.    BIOGRAPHY
    Research Interest :
    Kolliputi is working on translational strategies to attenuate acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Apart from acute lung injury research, Kolliputi lab is interested to study the role of microRNAs and inflammasomes in pulmonary hypertension.     Biography :
    Hui-Wen Lo, Ph.D. is Associate Professor at Duke University School of Medicine. She is also a member of the Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center, Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University and Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation at Duke University. She acquired her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Texas-Health Science Center at Houston in 2002 and conducted her postdoctoral fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center during 2002-2006. Lo joined Duke University School of Medicine in 2006 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and is presently Associate Professor of Surgery in the same Institute. She has served as a Scientific Reviewer on several DoD grant review panels, as well as, members of editorial boards of a number of journals. She also serves as ad hoc reviewers for a number of journals for more than 15 years.    BIOGRAPHY
    Research Interest :
    Hui-Wen Lo research interests are primarily focused on human cancers. Her laboratory is most interested in gaining a deeper understanding of cancer biology and in providing rationales for more effective, less toxic anti-cancer treatments. Current projects in her laboratory are investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer stem cells, tumor progression and metastasis and the therapeutic strategies that target these processes.     Biography :
    Chen received his graduate education at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. While there he started his research on gastrointestinal motility with a group of internationally renowned investigators in the Department of Medicine. Upon completing his PhD in 1989, Chen moved to the United State where he accepted a faculty position at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine. In 1995, Chen moved to Baptist Medical Center of Oklahoma, where he established an Electrophysiology Laboratory and worked intensively on electrophysiology of the gut and gastrointestinal pacing. In June 1999, he joined the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine at UTMB and is currently a Professor of Medicine. He served as the first President of the International Electrogastrography Society, has given over 180 invited lectures in various countries, served on committees of national and international conferences, published one book, over 310 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and over 400 conference papers and abstracts. His research has been supported by over 100 grants from the federal government, state, private foundations and industries. Chen has filed or awarded more than 20 patent applications. He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and a member of various professional societies in medicine and biomedical engineering. He serves as a council member of American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and a Board Member of North American Neurodumulation Society     BIOGRAPHY

    Research interest is in the area of physiology and pathophysiology of gastrointestinal motility as well as obesity and diabetes. Specific research topics include clinical gastrointestinal motility studies and electrical therapies (gastrointestinal electrical stimulation, spinal cord stimulation and vagal nerve stimulation) for functional gastrointestinal disorders, obesity and diabetes.     V. De Re has completed his Ph.D at the age of 25 years from Trieste University and postgraduate studies from Bologna University School of Medicine. She is a manager of experimental and clinical pharmacology, in an IRCCS Institute and coordinator of immunogenetics and proteomics studies.     Lymphoproliferations and cancer associated to inflammation due to chronic autoimmune diseases and/or virus infection. B and T-cell repertoire, BCR and TCR recognition, MHC molecules. In the last years combine molecular and proteomic approaches for the study of lymphoproliferative disorders associated with Hepatitis C virus infection and with chronic inflammation, identification and production of recombinant protein useful for bio-therapeutic approaches, identification of markers useful for early diagnosis of gastric carcinoma and for celiac disease complications.     Anil Modak, the Associate Director of Medical Products Research & Development at Cambridge Isotope Laboratories in Andover, MA, has been involved in the design, research and development of novel non invasive breath tests for personalized medicine using stable isotope substrates for the diagnosis of disease states and evaluation of enzyme activity. He is the author of several recent patents and publications. He has reviewed papers for reputed journals and authored one book chapter.     Sonya Marshall-Gradisnik is an Associate Professor in Immunology. Since obtaining her PhD (2004) she has received over $1.8 million dollars in competitive external grant funding. In 2010, Dr Marshall-Gradisnik was awarded the prestigious Queensland Women in Technology Research Award-Rising Star Award for her research into immunological biomarkers for CFS/ME. Dr Marshall-Gradisnik has edited two books, published thirty nine publications in high impact journals, four book chapters, and published forty-four conference abstracts in immunology. She is a reviewer for the Australian Research Council (ARC) and was recently invited to join the International Panel to review the Canadian Guidelines for CFS. Dr Marshall-Gradisnik has recently received the following awards/grants: Queensland Government ($533,000) and Alison Hunter Foundation CFS Research Grant ($120,000) for developing early diagnosis of immunological biomarkers for CFS/ME and a Mason Foundation Grant in 2010 ($95,0000) for gene expression investigations in CD8+ cells in CFS/ME patients. She has received the National Award as Best Young Science Investigator at the Australian Conference for Science and Medicine for her studies into natural killer cell function and genotyping and was a finalist in Young Australian of the Year Award - Science and Technology Category.     Biography :
    George Patrinos obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Athens. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Pharmacogenomics in the University of Patras and holds an adjunct position at Erasmus MC, Faculty of Medicine, Rottetrdam. Also, he is Greece’s National representative in the Pharmacogenomics working party of the European Medicines Agency EMA, London, UK. His research interests involve pharmacogenomics for hemoglobinopathies and neuropsychiatric disorders, transcriptional regulation of human fetal globin genes and genotype-phenotype correlation in human genetic disorders. His group also has a keen interest in developing National/Ethnic Genetic databases to document the genetic heterogeneity in different poulations worldwide. George Patrinos has more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and textbooks and he is the Editor of the textbook Molecular Diagnostics  Academic Press. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the international peer-reviewed journal Human Genomics and Proteomics and Communicating Editor for Human Mutation and he is one of the organizers of the international meeting series Golden Helix Symposia.     Khan is a Senior Research Scientist and an Assistant Professor of department of Medicine at National University of Singapore. He obtained his Ph.D. in Oncology from Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1999. Later he worked at RIKEN, the premier research institute of Japan, as a Post-Doctoral Fellow and as a Research Scientist. In 2003, he joined the Oncology Research Institute (ORI) of National University of Singapore as an independent investigator.
