Deep sea mining is a relatively new mineral retrieval process that takes place on the ocean floor.Ocean mining sites are usually around large areas of polymetallic nodules or active and extinct hydrothermal vents at about 1,400-3,700 m below the ocean’s surface. The vents create sulfide deposits, which contain valuable metals such as silver, gold, copper, manganese, cobalt, and zinc.

Seaweed is a macroscopic, multicellular, marine algae that lives near the seabed. The term includes some members of the red, brown, and green algae. The study of seaweed is known as Phycology. They belong to three different groups, empirically distinguished since the mid-nineteenth century on the basis of thallus color.

Brackish water or briny water is water that has more salinity than fresh water, but not as much as seawater. It may result from mixing of seawater with fresh water, as in estuaries, or it may occur in brackish fossil aquifers. Certain human activities can produce brackish water, in particular certain civil engineering projects such as dikes and the flooding of coastal marshland to produce brackish water pools for freshwater prawn farming.

Blue carbon sequestration refers to the capture and storage of carbon dioxide by marine and coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes.
These ecosystems act as effective carbon sinks, mitigating climate change by absorbing CO? from the atmosphere and storing it in plant biomass and sediments.
Mangrove ecosystems are coastal areas characterized by salt-tolerant trees and shrubs that thrive in brackish water.
They provide critical habitat for diverse marine and terrestrial species, act as natural buffers against storms and erosion, and play a key role in carbon sequestration.
Ichthyoplankton refers to the microscopic early life stages of fish, including eggs and larvae, that drift in the water column.
These stages are critical for understanding fish population dynamics, growth, and survival. Studying ichthyoplankton helps in assessing fish stocks, managing fisheries, and conserving marine ecosystems.
Photoendosymbiosis is a mutualistic relationship where photosynthetic microorganisms, such as algae or cyanobacteria, live within the cells of a host organism.
The microorganisms provide the host with essential nutrients produced through photosynthesis, while benefiting from a protected environment.
Marine microbiome analysis studies the diverse microbial communities in oceanic and coastal environments.
It focuses on understanding how these microorganisms interact with each other and their surroundings, their roles in nutrient cycling, and their impact on marine ecosystems.
Coral bleaching occurs when corals lose their vibrant colors and turn white due to stress, typically caused by elevated sea temperatures, pollution, or changes in water quality.
This stress disrupts the symbiotic relationship between corals and their algae, leading to a decline in coral health and reef ecosystems.
*2023 Journal Impact Factor was established by dividing the number of articles published in 2021 and 2022 with the number of times they are cited in 2023 based on Google Scholar Citation Index database. If 'X' is the total number of articles published in 2021 and 2022, and 'Y' is the number of times these articles were cited in indexed journals during 2023 then, journal impact factor = Y/X
